MEMBER SERVICES
Businesses often view environmental issues and regulations as obstacles and may have difficulty identifying opportunities to comply with environmental regulations in a way which would result in cost savings and efficiency gains. They may also be unfamiliar with the details of new regulations and are unlikely to have the expertise or the financial resources needed to improve their environmental performance. The BEA helps all businesses, regardless of size, with all environmental and health & safety matters.
The services listed below are available to all BEA members to help them access resources, find solutions to problems, identify areas for environmental improvement, comply with regulations and help businesses to function competitively, efficiently and in an environmentally sound way.
- Green Start Reviews
Upon joining the Lancashire BEA you will receive a Green Start Review Gap Analysis. The aim of this Gap Analysis is to provide a ‘spot check’ on environmental issues relating to your business. It will:
- Identify the current environmental position of your company.
- Identify likely problem areas and potential for improved environmental performance and savings.
- Provide background information for the BEA’s Search & Send service.
The Gap Analysis is not a comprehensive environmental review, it is merely a first step in encouraging environmental awareness and a bridge between initial contact and a full environmental review. It is a sketch of the company’s strengths and weaknesses regarding the environment and suggests a way forward to improve the company’s environmental performance.
- Seminars and Training
The BEA regularly organise and host seminars and training courses to which all members are invited. These cover topics such as waste management, new regulations, health and safety issues and other environmental matters. Company specific training courses can be provided covering areas such as waste minimisation, risk assessment, manual handling, environmental awareness, etc.
The current programme can be found here.
- Green Grants
There are often a number of grants available to businesses in Lancashire for a wide variety of projects. The BEA offers information and advice on grants and is happy to aid the application process.
- BEA Members Online Services
BEA Members are issued with a Username and Password which allows them access to the Members Only area where they are able to perform their own own research, read the latest edition of Environmental Advisor, view the latest Search & Send articles and request help.
- Signposting
The BEA will signpost companies to specialist environmental services such as air monitoring, environmental management systems, contaminated land assessment etc. and where funding permits signpost to free projects.
- ERIC Services
Information Services are provided by the Environmental Resource and Information Centre (ERIC) which holds a wealth of hardcopy on a broad spectrum of related topics. The information centre is an ideal research facility for BEA members. It contains a vast wealth of information on all environmental and health and safety issues. Sources of information range from journals to computer databases and all members are invited to make use of them.
